STONE RECORDS was founded in 1984, by jazz, blues and pop musician and music producer Richard Egizi. His goal was to make high quality, artistic records without the restrictions of commercial considerations. Stone Records' first album was "Cash Up Front" with Cash McCall. Cash was a natural musician and showman with both talent and charisma, who had previously been a record producer at Chess Records. Richard loved Cash's work and just had to produce his album.
While working on Cash's album, Richard needed a funky blues piano player, so hired Les McCann, whom he had known for many years. At the end of a session, Richard asked Les to play something for a friend and Les played "Prince of Peace" and blew them all away, so Richard invited Les McCann to record with Stone Records. Les was just leaving Atlanta Records and accepted the offer. Thus "Butterfly" was born, with Les singing and playing piano with full orchestration. Now Richard Egizi along with his partner Randy Farrar are continuing the tradition for fine music and are working on some exciting new projects.
